NW 7th Avenue (SR 7) Safety Improvement

Americas Engineers Project

AEI personnel (while an employee of another consultant firm) worked on this safety improvement project which specifically provides modifications within the median to mitigate safety conditions along the corridor.  The corridor is classified as Class 5 access based on Florida Administrative rule 14-97.  The existing roadway has a posted speed limit of 40 mph and consists of a six-lane minor urban arterial divided by a raised median with a traffic separator shifting to provide for a left turn movements at alternating intersections.  SR 7 runs north and south just west of interstate 95 in north Miami-Dade County providing access to commercial land uses fronting the state road and residential land uses immediately behind the commercial area and services an Annual Average Daily Traffic of 32,000 vehicles per day according to FDOT traffic information (2008).  The project includes signalized intersections at NW 119th Street, NW 125th Street, and 131st Street.  The existing travel lane and median widths vary throughout the corridor but the width of pavement is typically 82 ft. with a 17 ft. median.
AEI personnel:

  • Prepared design documents for Exceptions (Travel lane Cross-slope) and Variations (Parking lane slope, Border Width, Bike lane) in accordance with FDOT and AASHTO criteria.

  • Generated roadway cross-sections for the entire corridor.

  • Designed the expansion of NW 125th Street which was complicated due to the presence of several residential and commercial driveways.

  • Assisted in the drainage analysis of the project.

  • Developed Maintenance of Traffic plans for the entire project.
